Dobbs Optical has been taking care of Kalamazoo with exceptional service for over 50 years.
When Bill Dobbs opened the store’s doors he brought to downtown Kalamazoo a superior level of optical service, building a loyal customer base filling eyeglass prescriptions.
When Dr. Dave Dueweke took over the practice in 2000, it was his goal to broaden the scope of business by expanding the frame lines to include the most innovative, exclusive designers in the industry. Dobbs Optical works to uphold these objectives every day—while keeping the personal, small town feel that makes western Michigan such a high quality place to work, live and do business.

Meet the Doctor
David A. Dueweke, O.D
As the owner at Dobbs Optical, Dr. Dave Dueweke is steeped in the field of eyecare. A fourth-generation optometrist born and raised in Metro Detroit, Dr. Dave developed an interest in optometry at an early age through working at his father's optometric practice.
After receiving his doctorate from Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in 1987, he spent several years working with an ophthalmologist that specializes in cataract and corneal surgery. Dr. Dave subsequently joined the partnership of his father’s practice until 1997. Realizing his ongoing interest in the fashion aspect of eyeglasses, he sought out Dobbs Optical in Kalamazoo and relocated his family to pursue purchasing the long-standing business.
In January 2000 the business was purchased and relocated to its present location at 124 W. South Street in June 2000. Dr. Dave annually attends world-class trade shows and educational offerings to find the most innovative eyewear.
